FAQs

What is the effectiveness and efficacy of Osteopathic intervention in the treatment process?

250_originalThe profile of the effectiveness of Osteopathic care in the UK shows that there is high satisfaction rate amongst patients receiving osteopathic treatment. The evidence suggests that spinal mobilization and manipulation can be clinically effective in the treatment of lower back pain. 84% of osteopathic patients are seen within one week, 20% on the same day. 74% of patients reported improvement in symptoms after the first treatment. Similarly another study suggests that manual mobilization followed by an exercise program was superior to usual musculoskeletal care (as given by your GP or other health care practitioner). An important implication of this study is that mobilization can be delivered as a standalone treatment with exercise delivered at different times. There is no need to wait several weeks for your standard NHS referral. We are here to accommodate you quickly and to explore whether osteopathic treatment may be effective and beneficial for you.

What does musculosleletal mean?

255_originalThe term MSK (Musculoskeletal) is better known in NHS or physiotherapy practices. In orthopaedics it refers to the system of muscles, tendons, ligaments, bones, joints and associated tissues that move the body and maintain its form.

What is a Musculoskeletal condition and how do I know that I have got it and that it can be safely treated by osteopath?

251_originalSome of the aches and pains that you suffer from may originate from tight muscles, fascia tendon, ligaments, joints or nerves. The pattern of pain will need to be clinically examined and evaluated to determine whether the symptoms from which you suffer have some Musculoskeletal origin. We are trained to differentially diagnose and recognize musculoskeletal conditions from pathological conditions and assess whether you need further referral to a medical practitioner or whether we are able to help you. Only 10% of initial consultations seen in osteopathic practice are referred for further investigation.
